Magna-Guard Technical Information

Overview

Magna-Guard Oil Filter Magnet is a patented monolithic Ceramic-8 magnet. It is very powerful, totally insoluble in oil, and is rated to a temperature of 842° Fahrenheit. It is designed to universally fit all spin-on oil filters.

When a Magna-Guard Oil Filter Magnet is installed into an oil filter, engine wear is reduced by a factor of 8 to 14-times, fuel economy is improved by a minimum of 3.7 to 5%, and toxic tailpipe emissions and discharge are reduced by up to 18%. The ultimate benefits are greater engine performance over the extended life with lower operating costs. The product is designed and priced to be a throwaway at each and every oil change ensuring repetitive sales.

Science & Technology

Magna-Guard Oil Filter Magnets were designed with the aid of technical assistance and information provided by engineers at Allied Signal Corp, the manufacturers of FRAM oil filters.

At their recommendation, Magna-Guard commissioned the same independent laboratory they use, Testand Corporation, to conduct SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) tests to verify Magna-Guard Oil Filter Magnets are engine safe and do not void engine or manufacturer’s warranties. Read More.

Aftermarket Business, February 2000:

Magna-Guard: Editor’s Choice Best New Product of 1999. “. . . the concept is brilliant. Just drop the magnet inside the filter whenever it‘s changed and your engine will be better for it. This prevents friction and premature engine wear.”

Motor Trend – the Wor1d’s #1 Automotive Authority, November 1999:

Metal shavings can be the death of your engine . . . avoid the trouble and expense of engine damage. Magna-Guard… It sticks to the wall of the filter and traps metal particles as they travel through. Add a new one each time you change oil.

Max Power, February 2000:

“Even under the best driving conditions and the most meticulous maintenance, your engine will shed a little metal . . . these particles can work their way back into the engine and cause wear on a number of key components . . . An economical way to extend the life of your engine is with the Magna-Guard… it’s cheap insurance against wear and tear.

PowerLine, the Official Source of the Hot Rod Power Club, Vol. 1 #5:

“Magna-Guard… attracts and traps micro-fine metal particles that are generated during normal engine operation . . . prevents these particles from re-circulating into the oil and through the engine . . . can turn any oil filter into a super-filter, thus extending engine life, improving fuel economy and preserving horsepower.

New York Times Syndicate, by national-award-winning journalist Bob Sikorsky

Magna-Guard is an oil filter magnet that is placed in the oil filter at each oil change. I’ve long been an advocate of magnetic drain plugs and other magnetic technologies, and Magna-Guard makes it as simple as it gets. According to Magna-Guard, the magnets help the engine to last longer by attracting metal debris and keeping it from circulating in the engine oil.     I agree.

2000 Turbo Buick Newsletter’s – The Source. Vol. 13 No. 5:

“We’ve all seen magnetic drain plugs for engines and transmission oil pans . . . A company recently sent us a product for review which is a slight spin-off of these already proves practices.”

Most important to us was reliability amid reduced maintenance costs. While we cannot substantiate exact claims, we can relay what we’ve found by using the product. On a “freshly-rebuilt” engine with less than 10,000 miles, we installed the magnet . . . and ran the engine for approximately 3,000 miles. The photos below show the somewhat surprising results.”
